If there’s one thing that software engineers really enjoy, it’s learning and implementing exciting technologies. I’m no different and the sheer scale of the One application suite presents exciting technological challenges.
I lead the team of Capita One developers whose role is to solve ‘real-world’ problems for our customers. Our team is the final technical point for escalation within the development department and a combination of creativity, whilst remaining focused on the customers’ needs, is crucial. I enjoy finding sensible and practical solutions to these real-world issues and I’m convinced that our collective determination to make Capita One customers’ lives easier is infectious - keeping developers excited and enthusiastic means the software can only get better!
In order to provide the solutions our customers need, I refine processes, set and govern standards, and ensure that the department translates the customer requirement and the vision of the business into workable, production-ready solutions. I’ve recently been involved with major migration projects for Admissions and Transfers and B2B.
I guess if I had to pick a single achievement of recent months, it would be the success of the training and implementation of the Agile Scrum development method across Capita One. This involved training, coaching and mentoring over 150 staff in a new and stimulating process within a tight deadline so that everything was in place for the 2011 development projects to begin.

Tip of the Day
Once letters to parents have been generated through Workflow timelines in CSS, they are then logged automatically, making the letter part of the child's record and easily accessible.
