Complying with statutory obligations is front of mind for local authorities throughout the year, and I thought it would be useful to look at how you can use One to support you in ensuring the process is as smooth as possible for the next round of required returns, namely Admissions and the School Census.
Responding to the latest statutory requirements for admissions
The submission of Admissions files relating to September 2017 admissions and in-year admissions during the academic year 2016 to 2017 can be completed directly from One Admissions & Transfers. This includes the ADT file (Admissions Data Transfer File), ALT file (Admissions Decisions File), APT file (Admissions Pre-transfer File) and ASL file (Admissions School to LEA File).
Local authorities must plan to be live on the One Summer 2016 Release (3.60) by the time they commence exchanging ADT files for the September 2017 round.
In line with DfE requirements, we have updated One Admissions & Transfers, so you can import and export the new version 13.0 DfE Schema Admissions transfer files.
In Northern Ireland, local authorities have a different numbering system for schools and you will now be able to import the 7 digit school number files without having to modify the Admissions files.
Later in the year you’ll be looking at the School Census Autumn 2016 returns which is due on 6th October 2016. Local authorities can import the 2016 files using One and compare the basic details with their database, as well as use the census data for population forecasting.
The new set of EduBase, the DfE’s register of educational establishments in England and Wales, has also been updated on One UK Bases, so users will be able to select the new details from UK Bases.
I hope you found this helpful. You can find more information on completing your statutory returns in the Reference Guides on the One Publications website.
