I’d like to congratulate SIMS on winning the ICT Tool for Teaching, Learning and Assessment Award at this year’s Bett Awards, with the judges saying they found SIMS Assessment to be ‘very good at highlighting to staff, pupils and parents where there are developmental needs'. SIMS Assessment is an extremely powerful assessment tool indeed.
If you’re wondering what all this has to do with Capita One customers, it’s because, as of spring this year, B2B Attainment will enable local authorities to see any assessment data that the school chooses to share with them, in addition to the statutory return information. The data will contain all the attributes held in SIMS, including school results and result sets, allowing local authority teams to schedule the collection of results and targets, including Key Stage, phonics and early years foundation stage profile, direct from the school.
So if, say, you wanted to see the summative data showing how well a child is doing at the end of a particular term, you can set the data extraction to pull this information out for a group of aspects. You can then start applying the additional data within One to allow access to that school information by appropriate professionals working with that child, including, for example, the following teams:
- social workers
- virtual school heads
- educational welfare officers
- educational psychologies
- inclusion teams
- troubled families
Understanding what’s working
You can also use this data for multi-team analysis within your authority, such as comparing the performance of schools and linking this with business intelligence information (and the forthcoming One Analytics tool). This will help you understand a child’s progress throughout their educational career and to fill in the gaps between statutory assessments.
This information can be used to understand where resources are being put to best use. With access to the whole story of a child’s attainment, you can monitor the results of interactions with a child and see whether particular interventions have made a difference. This will help your teams improve outcomes for children and young people, by continuing with what they can see is having an impact, and looking at alternative strategies where needed.
Making it as easy as possible to collect data
You can schedule the collection of this data using the new B2B scheduled tasks to automatically upload and process attainment data using the generic import tool so there’s no need to collect and import data through Common Transfer Files.
I hope you’re looking forward to these new capabilities as much as I am – why not let me know what you think using the blog comments box below.
